HOW WE CAN HELP
Jackson County's Veteran Service Officer (VSO) is a trained and accredited advocate who provides personalized guidance through the often-complex veterans benefits process. Our VSO works one-on-one with veterans, dependents, and survivors to explain available benefits, prepare and submit claims, gather supporting documentation, and advocate on their behalf.
All services are provided free of charge and are completely confidential.
VA Pension Benefits
- Help eligible wartime veterans apply for VA pension.
- Assists surviving spouses and dependents with survivor pension benefits.
- Explains income and eligibility requirements.
Education Benefits
- Provides information on the GI Bill and other education programs.
- Assists with applications for education and training benefits.
Health Care
- Helps veterans enroll in VA health care.
- Explains eligibility and available medical services.
- Refers veterans to appropriate VA medical facilities.
State and Local Benefits
- Educates veterans on Missouri veterans’ benefits.
- Assists with property tax programs, veteran license plates, and other state benefits.
- Connects veterans with county and community resources.
Dependents and Survivors
- Assists surviving spouses and dependents with Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC).
- Helps with burial benefits and survivor benefits.
- Explains benefits available to family members.
Outreach and Advocacy
- Conducts outreach events throughout the community.
- Speaks to veteran organizations, civic groups, and employers.
- Educates the public about veterans' benefits.
- Collaborates with community organizations to connect veterans with needed resources.
