Jackson County Parks + Rec rolled out the red carpet to celebrate its more than 500 volunteers during the Annual Volunteer Banquet April 24, at the Adams Pointe Conference Center.

While welcoming guests, Parks + Rec Director Michele Newman, said the department’s partners and volunteers consistently put a spotlight on our parks throughout 2024 for more than 1.5 million visitors.

“So, tonight, we pay tribute and express our great appreciation to all of you who played an important role in our success this past year. This evening is an opportunity for us to personally thank you and to tell you just how much you mean to us.,” Newman said.

“Whether you contributed as the star of the show or to the behind-the-scenes production, you consistently engaged our visitors through historic interpretation, park and trail improvements, special recreation, golf, special events, outdoor education, marketing and more. Jackson County Parks + Rec is truly the show that no one wants to miss. “

According to County Executive Frank White, Jr., Parks + Rec has more than 500 registered volunteers providing service to virtually every division of the Parks Department.

“In the past year, you have collectively volunteered over 35,000 hours. Those volunteer hours saved the county more than one half-million dollars. That means that each of you not only helped your Jackson County Government to be more efficient, but you also brought incredible joy to so many people who love their parks,” White said.

Awards were presented to individuals who provided outstanding volunteer service for a particular work site within the Jackson County Parks + Rec System in 2024.
