Memorial Day is coming up so it’s time to take a swim, have a ball, build a sandcastle and catch some rays at one of Jackson County Parks + Rec’s two beaches.

Longview Lake Beach and Blue Springs Lake Beach will open Saturday, May 23 and be open daily through Labor Day.

Both beaches have plenty of clean sand to sit on, sun bathe in and build a castle upon, not to mention a large swimming area to cool off in. Certified lifeguards will be on duty, and modern restrooms are available with changing areas and showers.

Beaches will be open:

  • Weekdays (M-F): 1 - 7 p.m.
  • Weekends & Holidays: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Weekends only: second week of August through Labor Day

Note: Beaches will close during inclement weather or when temperatures are forecasted below 70 degrees for the day.

Longview Lake Beach offers a covered picnic shelter. It is also host to many special events including the popular “Sand Cinema” family movie series.

This year’s Sand Cinema flicks include:

  • June 12 - Disney’s Zootopia 2
  • July 10 – Christmas in July – Elf!

Gates open at 7:30 pm. Showtime is around 9 pm or dusk. Admission is $10 per car. Bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. No swimming, outside food, pets, or drinks permitted. Concessions are available.
