Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. Reveals Kidney Cancer Diagnosis, Credits Early Detection with Saving His Life
Kansas City, MO- Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. announced that he was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2022 and underwent surgery to remove one kidney. He is now cancer-free, crediting early screening, excellent medical care, and the support of his wife, Teresa.
“Early detection saved my life,” White said. “I share my story to encourage others to get screened and to remind us of what truly matters – family and health.”
White said the experience influenced his decision not to seek re-election when his current term ends in 2026. “This job has been one of the greatest honors of my life, but after my diagnosis, I knew I wanted more time with Teresa, my children, and my grandchildren. Until then, I remain committed to fulfilling my term of service with focus and determination. There is still important work to be done, and I intend to see it through on behalf of both our associates and the citizens of Jackson County.”
“Going through this has strengthened my resolve,” White said. “I will share more about my journey and announce new efforts to expand access to kidney screenings and other preventive tools so more families can benefit from the care that saved my life.”
