Jackson County Assessor Announces Property Value Information Will Be Available Online Beginning on June 9th
Plus, Traditional Property Value Notices Will be in Mailboxes Soon
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 5, 2023)– The Jackson County, Missouri, Assessor’s Office announced today that Property Value assessments for both residential and commercial properties can now be accessed via a new parcel viewer function at https://jcgis.jacksongov.org/parcelviewer/, beginning on June 9th.
In addition, traditional Property Value Notices will still be mailed out and will be arriving in mailboxes by June 15th. The Assessor’s Office encourages both residential and commercial property owners to review their statements and/or online assessment information carefully and reach out to the Assessor’s Office if they feel their property has been incorrectly valued.
On average, the Assessor’s Office has observed a 30% increase in real estate property values for single-family countywide, with some properties impacted more and some less. This is because:
- Since the last assessment two years ago, real estate values and building costs have experienced significant increases.
- Some Jackson County real estate and properties have not been assessed with Fair Market Valuations (FMV) for a long time.
Overall, the Assessor’s Office has implemented several changes to make the assessment process as transparent and equitable as possible, including:
- Opening a new “walk in” office at 1300 Washington Street in Kansas City, MO so those concerned about their property assessment can talk with assessment representatives and real estate brokers about their property value.
- Hiring a third-party vendor to assist with a parcel-by-parcel assessment process, which is a comprehensive review of all data on every parcel of property in the County.
- Hosting ten community meetings in the past year to educate the public on the property valuation process.
Because the parcel-by-parcel review is still ongoing, any property owner who feels their property has not been valued properly is encouraged to contact the Assessor’s Office and file an appeal by July 10.

Background
In Missouri, assessments are completed every other year, on the odd-numbered years. Taxing authorities in the county, not the Assessor, are responsible for setting and adjusting tax rates. Taxing authorities include school boards, fire districts, water districts, libraries, cities, counties, junior colleges and various funds – including the mental health fund, disabled services fund and blind pension. Jackson County receives only about 7 cents of every tax dollar, while the remaining 93 cents of every tax dollar goes to the taxing authorities.
