About Fort Osage National Historic Landmark

Built in 1808 under the direction of William Clark, Fort Osage served as both a military garrison and a trade center on the western frontier. Today, authentically attired historical interpreters bring the site’s history to life, offering visitors a glimpse into the daily lives of military personnel, civilians, and Native American populations who lived and worked at Fort Osage.

Visitors can explore the reconstructed fort overlooking the Missouri River and enjoy exhibits in the 4,000-square-foot Education Center, which also features a museum store with books, gifts, and souvenirs. Fort Osage National Historic Landmark is owned and operated by Jackson County Parks and is open year-round, Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
