Walktober 2026: Truman Historic Walking Trail

Celebrate the beauty of fall by walking a different trail every Sunday in October. With crisp air, vibrant colors, and scenic views, it’s the perfect time to get outside and get moving. Each week showcases a new trail, highlighting autumn’s most spectacular landscapes while encouraging healthy, active living.

Leashed dogs are welcome to join the fun. The first 200 participants at each location will receive a commemorative Walktober button designed by artist Brooke Wangwe—collect all four by attending every event!

Join us Sunday, October 25, for our final Walktober event of the year as we celebrate Jackson County’s 200th anniversary in the historic county seat of Independence!

We’ll kick things off at 10 a.m. at the Historic Truman Courthouse for a one-mile walk along the Truman Trail. Explore the trail at your own pace, or at 10:15 a.m., join former President Harry S. Truman for a special guided walk through his hometown.

While you’re there, step inside the Historic Truman Courthouse to see Truman’s office and courtroom, enjoy live music from Uke 66 and watch artists capture the day during our Quick Paint event. Artists interested in participating are encouraged to sign up in advance.

The first 200 participants will receive a commemorative Walktober button. Show your button at participating businesses around the Independence Square to receive special discounts!
