Published on September 24, 2025
Local media recently got the chance to see the progress being made on the new Jackson County Detention Center currently under construction on US Highway 40.
Following the tour County Executive Frank White, Jr., Prosecutor Melesa Johnson, members of the project team and detention center staff answered questions about the project.
Planning for the new detention center began in 2019, with construction starting in 2022. Once complete, the facility will provide a modern, secure, and efficient environment designed to safely house those detained in the county by the judicial system. The project represents a significant investment in the Blue Valley industrial corridor and underscores Jackson County’s commitment to public safety and innovation in correctional services.
Construction on the 1,000-bed facility is expected to be completed by mid-December of this year and ready to be occupied in April 2026.
