Food Assistance Program funds 16 agencies

Jackson County will be awarding $543,700 to 16 food distribution agencies through the Food Assistance Program. The program focuses on feeding the most vulnerable populations: seniors, children, the homeless and those who have lost jobs.

The County recognizes that food distribution organizations are on the frontline of the current COVID-19 pandemic. These organizations provide an invaluable service for the county’s community and it wishes to support them to ensure they can continue providing their critical services, including distributing produce and pantry staple items on a regular basis. It is crucial that Jackson County individuals and families in need can access essential food resources during this unprecedented time.

The program is funded using CARES Act funding and is an initiative of the Jackson County Legislature. Up to $50,000 is being offered to those eligible organizations who have been managing increased demand including increases in food distribution, costs incurred to bolster refrigeration/storage capacity, transportation cost and temporary equipment in order to comply with social distancing guidelines. 

The 16 agencies were selected out of 25 applications the county received. Those receiving funding are:

• TAGS Teach Assist Guide Shower for Humanity - $50,000
• Education First - $50,000
• Calvary Community Outreach - $50,000
• KC Baptist Temple of KC MO Graceway - $41,000
• Raytown Emergency Asst. Program REAP - $17,500
• Coldwater of Lee’s Summit - $5,000
• Morningstar’s Development Corp. - $30,000
• Total Man Community Development Corp. - $12,400
• Mattie Rhodes Center - $14,700
• Kingsway Lighthouse Ministers - $25,000
• Sisters In Christ - $50,000
• Macedonia Baptist Church - $50,000
• Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry - $50,000
• Lykins Neighborhood Association - $38,000
• River Church Family - $10,300
