Court Enforcement Action message is a scam

Over the weekend, members of the public may have received an official-looking “Court Enforcement Action” telling them to report to court or else face legal consequences. The message is a scam and should be ignored.

The message says the recipient must make a payment for outstanding traffic violations and must appear for a hearing at the Jackson County Courthouse. The 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri does not issue court notices in this way, and no hearing is being held.

The message includes a QR code to make a payment. Do not scan the code, make any payments, or respond in any way to the message.

Please note:

  • The court will only send text messages during jury service
  • The court will never request payment by text, phone or email

Do not:

  • Share personal information
  • Provide banking or payment details
  • Click suspicious links

These scams often target older adults. Please check in on elderly friends, family, and neighbors to make sure they’re aware.

If something feels off, it probably is. Stay alert and help spread the word.

If you have questions about the authenticity of any message that appears to be from the 16th Judicial Circuit or the Jackson County Circuit Court, please contact us at (816) 881-3658.
