Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota has released a vision for the future of Truman Sports Complex, and it is all centered around the idea of, “Do not abandon Arrowhead. Build around it.”

“Arrowhead has history, identity and value,” LeVota said. “We shouldn't wait until facilities are empty and hundreds of acres are sitting underused to start asking what comes next. The time to start that conversation is now.”

The report, developed following the work of the Truman Sports Complex Task Force, includes two concepts illustrating how Arrowhead could remain the anchor of a year-round district. The concepts explore a mix of potential uses, including sports and entertainment, private development, transportation, hospitality and innovation.

“I may have 87 days left in this office, but Jackson County has decades ahead of it,” LeVota said. “This isn't about announcing what will be built. It's about making sure Jackson County is prepared for what comes next.”

The 400-acre County-owned Truman Sports Complex was built in the early 1970s. Arrowhead Stadium has been home to the Kansas City Chiefs since opening in 1972 and Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973 as Royals Stadium.
