KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. today expressed his support for a joint lawsuit filed by the City and County of St. Louis that seeks to block the recently signed Missouri House Bill 85 (HB 85). Additionally, he is respectfully asking the County Legislature to introduce and pass a resolution at its next meeting in support of Jackson County joining the litigation filed today in Cole County Circuit Court.

County Executive White detailed why HB 85 is problematic in a letter to Jackson County Legislators this afternoon. Reasons include the threat it poses to public safety, law enforcement’s inability to regulate firearms use for citizens’ safety and finally, its unconstitutionality.

His full letter of support for the joint lawsuit is attached, as well as the U.S. Department of Justice letter to Governor Mike Parson and Attorney General Eric Schmitt.
