Detention Center promotes four female officers

The Jackson County Detention Center recently promoted four female corrections officers to Lieutenant.

Sergeants Hajin Abrego, Lorraine Arter, Natasha Brown and Latreasia Wilson received their promotions during a ceremony February 25, 2021 at the Detention Center.

Diana Turner, Detention Center Director, said, “This is an exciting day for our organization. These associates represent the future of this department and will be key to helping us achieve Sheriff Forte’s vision that we become a premiere corrections agency.” 

“They all have the right balance of courage under fire and the interpersonal communication skills that are so crucial for managing difficult individuals. They are a credit to the uniform and the County,” Turner said.

Lt_Abrego

Lt. Abrego started her career with Jackson County Detention Center on January 15, 2015. She has been part of an elite team, CERT/Emergency Response for the last three years of her six-year career. After two years of service, she was promoted to Sergeant. She has been a valuable associate mentoring fellow officers. Her training has evolved over several areas at the detention center which has increased her knowledge and resulted in several certificates:

  • DSO certificate
  • CERT Training certificate
  • Visitation certificate
  • Master certificate
  • MVP CERT Training certificate
  • WRAP Certificate Instructor
  • Emergency Mental Health Training

Abrego's aspiration as a Lieutenant is to inspire females in the law enforcement  field and prove higher goals can be attainable.

Lt_Arter

Lt. Lorraine Arter is a seasoned correction professional with more than 20 years' experience with the Department of Corrections. Arter is assertive and skilled while successfully monitoring inmates. She always maintains proper security and order, while remaining calm during  difficult situations. Her years of service speaks for itself. Arter commands respect and compliance from all levels of staff as well as inmates. Her skills include but are not limited to:

  • Classification Certified
  • Field Training Officer
  • Leadership Training
  • Master Control Visitation/Booking/Screening Qualified
  • Direct Supervision Officer Training
  • MARC Training
  • CERT Team
  • 2019 PERT Distinguished Safety Award
  • First Aid/CRP
  • Weapon Glock/Shotgun Certified

Arter feels she can inspire other female correction officers to strive for success.

Lt_Brown

Lt. Natasha Brown began her career with the Jackson County Detention Center in 2002. She became a Sergeant in 2018. She is very proud of the fact that she has trained in several other counties and facilities. For example, she was invited to a training for mock riots at the penitentiary in Moundsville, WV. Where she excelled. It was an unforgettable experience which she shares with her current position in the training department. At the beginning of her career, she worked in the RCC intake area developing forms, reports and shift administrator packets that are still used today. Her  awards and certificates include but are not limited to:

  • Direct Supervision Officer
  • Mental Health in Corrections Training
  • Master Control Center
  • Substance Abuse and Solutions
  • Records and Booking
  • ALERT, REJIS, TASER and Tiburon programs

Lt. Brown was transferred to the Training Department last year and has been a huge asset to the  team.

Lt. Latreasia Wilson is a seasoned correction professional with strong leadership and amazing intuitive repour with inmates. Wilson began her career in 2009. She is a senior member of CERT with more than five years demonstrating a commitment to excellence. Wilson has proven her leadership skills successfully by operating the 2nd floor medical/mental health area as well as the intake area. Currently Wilson is assigned to Team 2 but has been preforming duties exceptionally well as an Acting Lieutenant. Goals also include but are not limited to:

  • CIT Training
  • Mentorship Training
  • Inauguration team for CERT
