Jackson County Corrections Director Diana Knapp, Accreditation Manager Lucas Castilleja, and Sgt. Danny Barnes presented a workshop at the 152nd Congress of Correction in New Orleans earlier this month, titled “Boomers, Slackers, and Snowflakes: Building a Multi-Generational Leadership Team.”

Attendees filled the seats and spilled into the hallway of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center as Knapp and her team shared the value of having multi-generational representation on the Detention Center’s leadership team. They encouraged attendees to recognize the importance of engaging staff in crucial conversations, establishing clear expectations, and developing leadership potential in staff at every level.

In addition to delivering a presentation at the conference, members of the Detention Center attended workshops, presentations, and training opportunities from experts and leaders in the corrections field. Active participation in the American Correctional Association, American Jail Association, and other organizations is an important aspect of professional development within the Detention Center.

The Congress of Correction is an annual conference held by the American Correctional Association and is one of the largest gatherings of corrections professionals in the world. The 152nd event was held August 4th to August 7th.
