Register car as personal property

Have you received a Notice to Register your Car as Personal Property? You are in the right place!  

If you live in Jackson County you must register IN PERSON. This is true whether it is before or after the registration deadline.

In Person

If you live in Jackson County, you will need to come into the office to process your registration. This is true whether you are before the deadline or have missed the deadline.

Step 1.Prepare documents based on your status

  1. If this is your first vehicle purchase, you'll need:
  2. Vehicle title and Missouri application for title
  3. State ID, U.S. government-issued ID, Driver's License, or passport for ALL purchasers 

    2. If you're an established Jackson County Resident

  4. Vehicle title, vehicle registration, or vehicle renewal form of vehicle that needs to be added to your personal property account
  5. Copy of trade-in documentation or notarized bill of sale for vehicle to remove from account 
  6. Insurance company total loss paperwork
  7. Receipt from business that received the vehicle that was either donated or sold for scrap
  8. State ID, U.S. government-issued ID, Driver's License, or passport

    3. If you're a new resident from another Missouri County

  9. Title, vehicle registration, or vehicle renewal form of vehicle owned January 1st of the year
  10. Copy of paid tax receipts or waiver from previous county for the past two years
  11. State ID, U.S. government-issued ID, Driver's License, or passport for ALL residents moved to the County

    4. If you're a new resident from another state

  12. Current vehicle registrations or titles of all vehicles or property moved to Jackson County. Property includes autos, motorcycles, motor homes, mobile homes, boats, motors, trailers, airplanes, farm machinery, and livestock.
  13. Documentation providing proof of out of state addresses covering the past two January 1 of applicable years
  14. State ID, U.S. government-issued ID, Driver's License, or passport for ALL residents moved to the state

    Acceptable documentation for proof of residency:

  15. Bank statements
  16. Utility bills (gas, water, electric) 
  17. Lease agreement or mortgage payment statement 
  18. Credit card statement

    *Note: P.O. Boxes will not be accepted as proof of residency.

    5. If you're in the Military

  19. Title and Missouri application for title for new purchase
  20. Title, vehicle registration, or vehicle renewal form
  21. Military orders, LES form, or DD214 Military form
  22. State ID, U.S. government-issued ID, Driver's License, or passport
