INFORMATION REGARDING IN-PERSON COURT PROCEEDINGS

The Jackson County Municipal Court is now holding in-person court for all non-virtual dockets. Defendants were notified in advance by U.S. mail or upon issuance of a citation to appear for court on October 2, 2024. You can confirm your court appearance on October 2, 2024, by clicking on the links for the court dockets found under the "Related Information" column to the right.

Attorneys, please note all attorney status dockets now require an appearance.  Please read the August 27, 2021 Notice to Attorneys found under the "Related Information" column to the right.  Additional information for defense attorneys seeking to advance their case(s) may be found in this notice.

Court hearings are also being conducted via virtual conference.  Please email the court at div301@jacksongov.org to request or receive additional information regarding a virtual hearing.  All requests for virtual hearings shall be made at least FIVE (5) DAYS before the currently scheduled court date.

FAILING TO APPEAR IN-PERSON OR BY VIRTUAL SETTING ON YOUR SCHEDULED COURT DATE/TIME MAY RESULT IN A WARRANT BEING ISSUED FOR YOUR ARREST.

If you are requesting a continuance, that it is not your first initial appearance, you will need to come into court and make a request to Judge Witteman. No phone continuances will be allowed the day of court.

 

About Our Court

Jackson County formed a County Municipal Court to adjudicate general County Ordinance violations in June 2008. The court held its first session in July 2008. The County Municipal Court considers all tickets for general county ordinance violations posted June 1, 2008 or later. Municipal Court dockets are held every Wednesday of the month at the Eastern Jackson County Courthouse on the 1st Floor in the Jury Room (Room 157) located at:

Violation Examples

Examples of general county ordinance violations include traffic or other ordinance violations issued by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, as well as food inspection, animal control, code enforcement, and park citations issued by the respective enforcement department personnel.

The County Municipal Court may be reached either by email at div301@jacksongov.org or by phone at 816-881-1697 during normal business hours, Monday thru Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.  Due to high call volume, communication by email is highly recommended.  

Please note all tickets on general county ordinance violations written prior to June 1, 2008 and citations written by the Missouri Highway Patrol are handled by the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri. Additional information may be found on Missouri Case.net. Questions regarding these cases should be referred to the Circuit Court Criminal Records Division at 816-881-4500 in Independence or 816-881-4350 in Kansas City.  

Citations written by the Independence Police Department are handled by the Independence Municipal Court, which may be reached by phone at 816-325-7230.
