I want to thank all of those who took a swing at hunger and donated to Harvesters as part of the “Step Up to the Plate” promotion to collect food for our local food bank.
Because of you, Kansas City defeated Cleveland in a battle between the two cities to collect the most in donations. During the promotion, I challenged Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish to see which county would come out on top. As part of the challenge we agreed that the one with the least amount of donations would have to work in their food bank while wearing the jersey of the other team. I am pleased to say that I will not be wearing an Indians’ jersey.
Both Harvesters and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank along with the communities they serve are the true winners in this friendly competition. Harvesters will still be collecting and counting food donations as they round up barrels from Price Chopper stores and from The K this week, but it is already clear that we will smash the 10,000-pound goal.
Cleveland fans raised an amazing $40,000, but Royals fans stepped up and raised nearly $44,000 to pull out the win.
Again many thanks to all of those who donated.
Jackson County Executive
