Jackson County Assessment Department completes residential informal review requests
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. is pleased to announce that the Assessment Department has completed processing all informal review requests for residential properties that were submitted as part of the 2019 biennial reassessment process.
Jackson County received nearly 22,000 (residential and commercial) informal review requests, which only represents approximately 7.3% of all parcels.
“Our Assessor and her staff have worked very hard to ensure that every single property owner who had concerns was heard,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “We have maintained our commitment to a fair and accurate reassessment and as this process moves forward, that is what we will continue to do.”
Residential property owners who filed an informal review request have been or are in the process of being notified of the Assessment Department’s decision. This notice of decision will primarily be sent via email. Property owners are encouraged to check their inbox, spam and junk mail folders for such notification and potential stipulations.
A stipulation is an agreement between the County and the property owner on a property’s assessed valuation.
In addition, the Assessment Department is nearing completion of all informal review requests for commercial properties. Notification on these properties is provided in a similar fashion as described above.
If property owners choose to file an appeal with the Board of Equalization after receiving notification from the Assessment Department, they have 21 days to do so from the date of the notice.
