Jackson County Executive issues proposal to expedite elevator repairs and modernization
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Today, Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. recommended a proposal to expedite the repair and modernization of the six downtown courthouse elevators in response to concerns of the Presiding Judge.
The County Executive is proposing changes to the County’s purchasing code, which would broaden his authority to waive the County’s competitive bidding requirements in the event of an emergency. This modification would allow the County Executive to immediately enter into a contract for the repair and modernization of the downtown courthouse elevators.
Only the County Legislature can amend the County’s purchasing code by ordinance.
“Since becoming County Executive, I have advocated for increased funding for the downtown courthouse,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “While I understand the Judge’s frustrations, we cannot move forward by continuing to point fingers. County staff is and continues to work very hard on this issue and it is critical that I have the Legislature and Courts support if we truly are working in the best interest of our citizens. The Legislature approved my recommendation for funding in the 2019 budget and had it not been for the devastating floods, we would be well underway on the elevator modernization project.”
