Jackson County COMBAT Awards Ceremony recognizes community heroes

Jackson County COMBAT will recognize four outstanding community advocates during its awards ceremony and dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Pennway Place at Studio Dan Meiners, located at 2500 W. Pennway in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jackson County COMBAT Awards Ceremony recognizes community heroes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County COMBAT will recognize four outstanding community advocates during its awards ceremony and dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Pennway Place at Studio Dan Meiners, located at 2500 W. Pennway in Kansas City, Missouri. Media availability with award recipients begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 6 p.m.

This year’s honorees are the epitome of COMBAT heroes who are creating hope, by taking action, to make a change in our community. The following will receive awards in the various categories:

  • Prevention Award: Paula Davis, ArtsTech
  • Advocacy Award: Lou Steele
  • Treatment Award: Kent Jewell, Benilde Hall
  • Criminal Justice Award: Damon Daniel, AdHoc Group Against Crime

Kansas City Royals Alumni Willie Aikens is the evening’s guest speaker. The former first baseman will share his personal journey of a career on the diamond, to drug abuse, prison, resolve and recovery.


COMBAT is the Community Backed Anti-Drug and Anti-Violence Tax, which was first approved in 1989. The mission of this long-standing program is to prevent and reduce drug abuse, addiction and the violent crime that is often associated with it. Through prevention, treatment and criminal justice, COMBAT is dedicated to funding evidence-based programs to address these community issues. Visit Jackson County COMBAT learn more.
