Jackson County Responds to March 23 Inmate Incident

County Executive Frank White, Jr., has ordered the removal of all Jackson County inmates from the Johnson County (MO) jail pending an immediate and full investigation into the incidents of March 23, 2017. The County Executive has called for all involved to be held accountable and has pledged the County’s cooperation in any investigation.

“While we are thankful that no one was injured, we are deeply concerned that this incident occurred at all.” said White, “We will not return our inmates to the Johnson County jail until we are certain all operational issues have been adequately addressed.”

Jackson County personnel responded quickly to the incident and are continuing to communicate with Johnson County jail officials.

Jackson County entered into a MOU (memorandum of understanding) with Johnson County, MO on September 26 of last year to house Jackson County inmates during the on-going safety and security upgrades to the Jackson County Detention Center.

Due to swift action of multiple law enforcement agencies, officers quickly brought the incident to a safe and successful conclusion without any risk to the public.
