Beaches, Boating and Biking Oh My!

Summer 2017

If you love beaches, boating and biking, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy your Jackson County Parks.

“The Associates of Jackson County Parks + Rec are poised and ready to ‘make your day’ as we kick-off our summer season of fun! With 22,000 acres of parkland in Jackson County, you’re sure to find your spot for fun, fitness and affordable family entertainment on our lakes, beaches, golf course and trails,” said Parks + Rec Director Michele Newman.

“We look forward to welcoming over 1.4 million visitors to our parks from coast to coast this year!”

Besides the numerous opportunities for outdoor activity, Jackson County Parks + Rec also offers several events for the whole family.

Celebrate Flag Day! Join us Saturday, June 10th, 2017, for Flag Day at Fort Osage from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with special presentations at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Learn about proper flag etiquette and explore a display of flags representing different periods of American history!I


Meet us at the marina! The 7th Annual National Marina Day Celebration at Lake Jacomo Marina will feature boat rides, kayak and canoeing seminars, Bass Pro Shop Fishing Seminars with the Pros, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Central Jackson County Fire Protection District demonstrations, raffles, children’s activities and more. The event will be held Saturday, June 10th, 2017, from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Load the kids in the car and enjoy “The Secret Life of Pets” on the giant inflatable screen at Longview Lake Beach! The screening will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017, at 9 p.m. (or dusk). Disney Pixar’s “Finding Dory” will be shown on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 9 p.m. (or dusk). Gates open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per car. Bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Pets, outside food, and smoking are not permitted. Concessions are available.

Experience the festivities as the Missouri Town staff and volunteers celebrate America’s Independence. Patriotic speeches, children’s games, period cooking, dancing and militia marches are a few of the many interpretive activities! Join us Tuesday, July 4th, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Missouri Town. Adults $7.00; Youth 5-13 and Seniors $4.00; Under 5, Free.
