Notary Commissions


Applications for a commission as a notary public can be downloaded from the Missouri Secretary of State's website.

A Notary Public in Jackson County, Missouri, must pick up their commission from the County Clerk's office, either at the Jackson County Courthouse or the Independence office.

If a notary wishes to pick up his/her commission from the Independence location, it is necessary to contact the Kansas City office 1 day prior so it can be sent to Independence.

Notary Bonds


When picking up a commission, the notary public should bring his/her $10,000 notary bond, letter received from the Secretary of State and $5 processing fee. Only cash or checks are accepted.
