MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2021
The Jackson County Legislature selected Dan Tarwater III as Chairman and Ron Finley as Vice-Chair during its first meeting of the new year.
Tarwater served as vice-chair for the last two years and this will be his fifth time to lead the legislature during his 27-year career as the 4th District legislator.
He said his main goal of the new year is to improve relations between county leaders.
“It has been quite rocky for the last couple of years and I would like to smooth things out,” he said. “I have always been a person who has been known to bring people together. I would like to try to do that because we have a lot of things that we need to get accomplished.”
Among the projects that need to be accomplished are recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic by getting the public and business back online and getting a new jail built.
“There are a lot of things that we have got to get done and the only way we can do that is by working together,” Tarwater said. “I am going to meet with the county executive and with the sheriff and set down with them and say whatever we have had in the past let’s put it behind us and go forward.”
Finley will once again be taking the vice-chair position which he held for four years from 2000 – 2004. He left the legislature in 2006 and was re-elected in 2018.
According to Finley the legislature has much to accomplish. “We have so much to do, I just want to make sure that we are operating as efficiently as possible, as publicly transparent as possible and consistent with the administration that we are formulating policies that will be in the benefit of the people of Jackson County.”
Tarwater takes over the chairman position from 6th District Legislator Theresa Cass Galvin who served for the last two years.
Dan Tarwater, right, was named Chairman and Ron Finley Vice-Chairman during the Legislative meeting January 4, 2020.
