Tony L Putman, 19, was sentenced today by a Jackson County judge to life in prison for the rape of an 84-year-old woman in July 2012, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Putman was also sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison to run consecutive to the life sentence. The extra 10 years was for Robbery 2nd Degree and two counts of Kidnapping. Judge W. Brent Powell sentenced Putman to 10 years on each of those counts, ordering all to be served concurrent to each other. In total, Putman should serve more than 34 years in prison for the violent attack on the woman and her 93-year-old husband.
Putman originally was charged with six counts, including the rape, robbery and two counts of kidnapping. A grand jury later increased the counts to nine. But Putman agreed to plea guilty to the four counts that he was sentenced for today; the other counts were dismissed.
