April 25, 2013

A Jackson County judge on Thursday sentenced Matthew Nelson, a former Grain Valley teacher, to 15 years in prison.

Nelson was sentenced by Judge Michael Manners to 15 years on each of 15 counts of child molestation and statutory sodomy and seven years on a 16th count of attempted child molestation. Manners ordered all sentences to run concurrently. Eleven boys, second- or third-graders in Nelson’s elementary school were victims in the case. The incidents occurred between Aug. 2008 and Jan. 2012.

Manners sentence accepted a plea agreement between prosecutors, Alison Dunning and David Luna, and defense lawyers in the case.
