Gain a better understanding of the 19th century way of life. Historic interpreters will teach you blacksmithing, how to bake a pie on the hearth, make lye soap and much more!

Pre-registration and payment are required to attend a workshop. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis until class size is met. Unless otherwise noted, all materials are included in the cost of the workshop and will be provided by the instructor. Workshops not meeting the minimum reservation requirements will be canceled.

Turn rags into rugs using a technique that is easy to learn but hard to put down. Learn to make oval rugs and discuss how to make rectangular rugs with a slight change in technique. This is a great way to make custom color rugs from cheerful bright colors to muted cozy colors. Colors of the rugs will vary.

Home made soap

Soap Making

Make soap using lye and lard using the cold water method.  You will be taking home a bar of soap that you have made in the class.  Bring a sack lunch if you need to eat at noon.  Class may be completed by noon, depending on the outside temperature.

Learn the history of these 18th & 19th century keepsakes and make on to take home! A brief discussion of the history and a study of original objects will be followed with supplies and instructions to craft your own, either to keep or give away. Basic hand sewing skills required.

Create this small sewing pouch. This pattern was originally seen in "A Girl's Own Book" in 1833. It can be used as an ornament or to hold buttons, thimbles or thread. Basic sewing skills are required.

Basket - Tote with Shaker Tape Handles

Back by popular demand, this solid bottomed Tote Basket measures 12"x8"x6.5" and has durable Shaker tape handles. This is a relatively easy basket to weave, so beginners are welcome! You will learn basic weaving techniques in a fun setting. Basket liner not included.

English Paper Piercing
Two Sessions!

Session #1 on 8/9:  Learn a piecing technique that was used as early as the 1770's. During the first session, learn how to make and hand sew the fabric and paper templates together. During the second session, you will have the option of embroidery work and learn the finishing techniques required. Basic hand sewing skills required. This table mat will take two sessions and will require homework.

Session #2 on 11/1:  Learn embroidery skills and important finishing techniques to complete your table mat!
