Substance abuse counseling and treatment ares the only way to break the vicious cycle of addiction.   It has been shown that treatment is significantly less expensive than incarceration.  The cost of the average prison stay of 25 months for one inmate equals $64,338 whereas treatment which includes the cost of residential, vocational training and support services is only $32,974. 

COMBAT dollars go to fund more than 30 different treatment agencies providing a total in 2009 of $2,919,315.  These different programs provide

• 2,500 adult and juvenile treatment slots were available throughout 23 Jackson County different treatment agencies in 2008.  (CLICK HERE for a complete list of treatment agencies.) Most of their clients are referred from the criminal justice system. 
  
  
• Treatment partnerships include established hospitals and medical clinics, mental health facilities and community-based care facilities. 
  
  
  
• COMBAT-funded programs provide comprehensive drug treatment services, detoxification, residential and outpatient services and continuing care services such as job training and transitional living programs.
  
  
• 80% of all crime in Jackson County is estimated to be drug-related. 
  
  
• At Benilde Hall, one of the many COMBAT-funded treatment programs, they reported of the 170 men served in 2008, that 92% of their residential participants obtained and maintained permanent housing after graduating from the program.
