MAY 21, 2012 -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Motorcycle Unit escorted "Run For The Wall" cyclists across Missouri on Monday, May 21 as they reached the midway point of their annual cross-country trip to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. Since becoming Jackson County Sheriff in 2009, Mike Sharp has had the Motorcycle Unit escort the Run For The Wall riders on their journey through the Show-Me State.
Run For The Wall’s mission is "to promote healing among veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all prisoners of war and those missing in action, to honor the memory of those killed in action from all wars and to support military personnel all over the world."
The Run For The Wall journey begins in California and ends in Washington each Memorial Day weekend. The bikers' trip through Missouri includes a brief detour off Interstate 70 -- for a parade through historical downtown Concordia, Missouri.
Sharp and his deputies are committed to providing Run For The Wall escorts for as long as he remains Jackson County Sheriff.
