Event Demonstrates Focus On Child Abuse Prevention Month
Law Enforcement 'On Track'

The setting was perfect given that the theme for the event was "on track."

Representatives from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, including Sheriff Mike Sharp, joined law enforcement officials from several local Greater Kansas City-area agencies -- from both Missouri and Kansas -- at the Kansas Speedway on April 12 to demonstrate they are united in preventing child abuse. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Wyandotte County (Kansas) Sheriff Don Ash sponsored the April 12 "On Track" To Build Stronger Families to demonstrate all local enforcement officers are committed to working together to prevent child abuse. Fully marked patrol vehicles from the various agencies lined up in the pit area of the Kansas Speedway, sounded their sirens and then, while leaving their lights on, drove in a procession around the track.

"This symbolizes all law enforcement working together to prevent abuse," stated a Wyandotte County Sheriff's news release.

Each officer participating received a blue wristband to further symbolize their commitment to protecting children from abuse.

Participating from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office were (L-R) Deputy Chad Highley, Deputy Scott Newlon, Sergeant Scott Goodman, Sheriff Mike Sharp, Captain Mike Montgomery and Deputy Mike Miller.
