Sheriff's Office Honored
For Run For The Wall Escort

Bob Sever, Senior Ride Captain with the Patriot Guard, presents Sheriff Mike Sharp and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department with a plaque for the Department’s participation as escorts in the annual Run For The Wall Motor Cycle Ride.

JULY 21, 2010 -- Run For The Wall organizers and members of the Patriot Guard visited the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Wednesday, July 21, 2010 essentially to say, "Thank you." They presented Sheriff Mike Sharp a plaque commemorating the Jackson County Motorcycle Unit's escort of the Run For The Wall motorcycle riders as they traveled across Missouri on Interstate 70 on May 24.

The annual ride starts in California and ends at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. Run For The Wall’s mission is “to promote healing among veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all prisoners of war and those missing in action, to honor the memory of those killed in action from all wars and to support military personnel all over the world.”

The Patriot Guard was formed in Kansas in July of 2005 to stand guard, at the invitation of surviving family members, at the funerals of America servicemen and women killed in action. Bob Sever, a Senior Ride Captain with the Patriot Guard, presented Sheriff Sharp with a second plaque for the Sheriff's organizing of the Run For The Wall escort across the entire state of Missouri May 24.

"We were honored to escort these riders across the state," Sheriff Sharp said. "Most of them are veterans. This is a small way for us to thank them for their service."
