'Clean Out Your Files Day' A Record-Setting Success!
Over 40 Tons Recycled

HANDS-ON LEADERSHIP: County Executive Mike Sanders pitches in during the County-wide effort.

TEAM EFFORT: All departments of the County participated in Clean Out Your Files

43,000 POUNDS: County employees more than doubled the 17,000 pounds of paper recycled in 2007.

OLD COMPUTERS OUT: Non-working electronics/computers accounted for 20 tons of recycling.

SAVING $6,000: The County saved $6,000 on the costs of recycling old computer monitors.

MAY 7, 2008 -- The numbers are in, and Jackson County's 2008 "Clean Out Your Files Day" last month was a huge success. The County recycled 43,000 pounds of paper, with Shred-Time and Secure Document Solutions securely shredding the paper.

The 21.5 tons of paper that was recycled only tells part of the story as Jackson County surpassed all previous "Clean Out Your Files Days" with more than 41.5 tons of total material recycled.

The County recycled 20 tons in the form of non-working electronics and computer equipment, including 497 monitors and 510 computers/servers. The Teamsters Joint Council 56 donated the services of a driver and tractor/trailer to haul the non-working electronics to the United States Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas. Using the prison's Unicor program to recycle the monitors saved the County approximately $6,000.

The County also recycled 54 vehicle batteries, 320 pounds of household batteries, 587 toner cartridges, 410 gallons of paint and paint-related products, and 1,013 fluorescent bulbs.

The County would like to thank the following companies and organizations for contributing to this recycling effort: Deramus Community Recycling Center, Lafayette County Enterprises, Laser Cycle, Recycle Center at Metro North, Shred-Time, Secure Document Solutions, Teamsters Joint Council 56 and the Unicor program in Leavenworth. Thank you also to the employees of Jackson County who contributed to the most successful "Clean Out Your Files Day" to date.
