Little Blue Trace Trail
Jackson County’s Little Blue Trace is the backbone of a trail system that has the potential to connect the trail systems of Independence, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit and Grandview, Missouri. The Little Blue Trace also serves as a major artery of the Mid-America Regional Council’s proposed Metro Green Trail System, a grouping of trails interconnecting the seven County metropolitan areas. Jackson County owns the Trace’s 1,856 acres of parkland stretching for 26 miles. The long-term goal for the Little Blue Trace Trail has always been to fully construct the 26 miles of trail. With the high level of intergovernmental cooperation between Jackson County Parks & Recreation, the City of Independence and the City of Kansas City, this goal is in progress of being met. All three municipalities hosted a Ribbon Cutting and Groundbreaking Ceremony on June 3, 2011.
