Other facilities include 2 shelterhouses (Bergen Shelter and Hammond Road Shelter), 6 picnic tables and (pit) toilets. The natural setting of the area offers a great opportunity to study wildlife and enjoy the wilderness. There are also facilities for primitive, organized group camping.

There is a fee for overnight horse camping on Brown Road.

LANDAHL PARK

Located 2 miles east of Missouri Highway 7 on Truman Road.

Popular with mountain bikers, this park includes many miles of trails designated for bikers of all levels and skills.

Our newest facility is an archery range complex with static targets and 3 walking courses.

Other activities include horseback riding trails, a softball field, a picnic shelter, 40 picnic tables, primitive group camping, hiking, and in the winter, cross country skiing.

In 1981, the Missouri Department of Conservation opened the Lake City Shooting Range for target shooting and outdoor education. The Conservation Department operates the Range to provide a safe practice area for hunters and marksmen. A new facility made up of a rifle range, pistol range, 3 trap ranges, a skeet range and indoor classroom is currently under construction and will replace the old facility in fall of 2009.

Formerly the Lake City Park Reserve, the park was renamed in 1988 to honor former Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department Director William L. Landahl.

LITTLE BLUE TRACE

Borders the Little Blue River from Longview Lake north to Blue Mills Road.

In 1985, Jackson County Parks and Recreation completed the purchase of the Little Blue Trace Nature Preserve.

An 11-mile hiking and bicycling trail highlights the park, which also includes -- along this trail system -- 4 shelters, 30 picnic tables and a softball field. The trail currently starts at Blue Mills Road and extends 11 miles to I-70. It will ultimately extend to Longview Lake.
