The Kemper Outdoor Education Center's offers an outdoor Team Building program for groups as young as 5th graders through adults. Groups face multiple challenges that foster communication, cooperation, problem solving, group cohesiveness,  mutual respect, support, conflict resolution, broader perspective, sensitivity to others (especially those a bit different than oneself), excellence, out-of-the-box thinking, strategic planning, risk taking, confidence, and a sense of connectedness to the natural world. Group sizes from 10 to as large as 120 can be accommodated.

These innovative environmental education field trips feature multi-station experiences for school groups of up to 150 students. Teachers design their own field trip by choosing 4 to 6 topics from a menu of twenty. Topics include live reptile and amphibian programs, habitat hikes, birds and binoculars, skins & skulls, wild canids, soil conservation, recycling relays, bats, humane education, nature scavenger hunts and a variety of ecosystem choices.

The diverse terrain surrounding Fort Osage presents a perfect setting for this guided program. After a brief introduction in the Education Center by our staff naturalist, the group will embark on a guided tour of both the upland and floodplain zones. Various species of plants will be identified with special attention given to those which were identified during the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Participants will see how invasive, non native, species threaten plants native to Missouri. Please wear hiking boots or shoes and bring insect repellant and a canteen. Binoculars, cameras and sketchbooks are also recommended.

Have you ever wondered what an archaeologist does? Join a professional archaeologist as he explains how the archaeological investigations at Fort Osage over the past 60 years has expanded our knowledge not only of the Fort but also the indigenous people who occupied the site almost 200 years ago. All aspects of archaeology will be covered including how the new technology of ground penetrating radar and other non-invasive methods have recently been used at Fort Osage to further understand the history of the site.

Get into the swing of things by joining a Fall Softball League. Men's and Coed Divisions are offered. JCP&R Fall Softball Leagues are played Sundays through Thursday nights at two of the finest ballparks in the area. Register online today, the registration deadline is August 17.
