These innovative environmental education field trips feature multi-station experiences for school groups of up to 150 students. Teachers design their own field trip by choosing 4 to 6 topics from a menu of twenty. Topics include live reptile and amphibian programs, habitat hikes, birds and binoculars, skins & skulls, wild canids, soil conservation, recycling relays, bats, humane education, nature scavenger hunts and a variety of ecosystem choices.

Location: At Lake Jacomo on Beach Road one-half mile north of Colbern Road.

Introduce your kids to the sport of fishing at this fun-filled family event at beautiful Lake Jacomo.  Children ages 2-15 will be testing their skill and luck.  A casting clinic and other demonstrations will help hone their skills.  Prizes are awarded to Derby winners.  Children should bring their own tackle, bait and buckets to hold their catch!

Our Missouri ancestors depended on flocks of sheep not only for food but also for their valuable wool. The entire process of using wool including shearing, washing, carding, spinning, dyeing and weaving are presented in this annual event. The antebellum architecture and unique charm of Missouri Town 1855 creates the perfect setting as skilled artisans demonstrate these time-honored tasks and share their knowledge with our guests. Join us for an entertaining and educational fiber arts event!

Have you ever been curious about that box of arrowheads that you might have found or had been given to you by a relative? Join us at Fort Osage where professional archaeologists will be available to determine the approximate age and origin of the archaeological material, and other historic and prehistoric artifacts. Your artifacts will be placed in a historic context which will help you better understand who made the object and how it was used. Expert advice will also be available on how to properly store your artifacts.

The diverse terrain surrounding Fort Osage presents a perfect setting for this guided program. After a brief introduction in the Education Center by our staff naturalist, the group will embark on a guided tour of both the upland and floodplain zones. Various species of plants will be identified with special attention given to those which were identified during the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Participants will see how invasive, non native, species threaten plants native to Missouri. Please wear hiking boots or shoes and bring insect repellant and a canteen. Binoculars, cameras and sketchbooks are also recommended.
