The Jackson County Legislature is required to hold at least 48 regular meetings each year as stated in the Constitutional Home Rule Charter of Jackson County, Missouri. The first, third and fifth Monday of the month, the meetings are held in the Legislative Assembly Area of the Kansas City Courthouse at 415 E. 12th Street, on the second floor. The second and fourth Monday of the month, the meetings are held in the Legislative Chambers on the ground floor of the Independence Courthouse Annex, located at 308 W. Kansas.

The Legislative meetings are usually held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday unless it is necessary to change the time and day due to holiday or scheduling conflicts.

The Legislature normally does not meet the weeks of Memorial Day (May) or Labor Day (September).
