Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders and Board Director Jake Jacobs are joined by the three new members of the Developmental Disability Services Board: (L-R) Mark McCaskill, Tammy Kemp, Jacobs, Sanders and John Humphrey.
MARCH 25, 2011 -- The Development Disability Services of Jackson County mission is "to support individuals with developmental disabilities and their families with services that respect their choices, increase their opportunities, encourage their independence, and assist their inclusion in all aspects of the community."
Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders calls the work of the Board of Developmental Disability Services "essential." He was, therefore, delighted dozens of County citizens applied for three vacancies on the board. (All board members volunteer their time and receive no compensation.)
"When we asked for people to step forward and serve the community, we got a tremendous response," said Sanders. "So many people were willing to give of their time to be sure the important work of this board was done. At the same time, we had just three openings on the board. That made selecting just three, from all the applicants we had, a challenge."
Sanders made his final decision official during the Monday, March 21 County Legislative meeting as he introduced attorney John Humphrey, social worker Tammy Kemp and banking executive Mark McCaskill as the three appointees to the board.
"This is a phenomenal organization," said Sanders. "Each of these three individuals will do a wonderful job on the board, assuring the important work this does does, on behalf of all Jackson County citizens, gets done."
