All residents of Jackson County are eligible to apply for the Home Weatherization Program being administrated through the City of Kansas City, Missouri. The Home Weatherization Program assists homeowners by providing energy conservation services customized to meet their specific needs. Eligible applicants receive a two- to four-hour energy audit performed by a City employee, to determine where energy escapes and the most cost-effective way to correct energy use problems.
The United States Department of Energy has established this program, and the City of Kansas City is the designated agency in this area for the receipt and distribution of this program's funds to residents of all Missouri counties in the Greater Kansas City area: Jackson, Clay and Platte. One need only be a resident of Jackson County -- Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, unincorporated Jackson County, etc. -- to apply for this program. Services through the program include:
- Repair or replacement of furnaces and water heaters
- Ductwork
- Repair or replacement windows and doors
- Caulking, weather stripping and installing insulation to sidewalls and attics.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Kansas City Power & Light, Missouri Gas Energy, Aquila, Ameren UE, and Empire Electric provide funding for the program.
