Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders joins Kansas City Councilwoman Cathy Jolly and City Manager Wayne Cauthen in making a key announcement concerning the housing of inmates.

JANUARY 14, 2009 -- Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders joined Kansas City Councilwoman Cathy Jolly (6th District) and City Manager Wayne Cauthen in a news conference today announcing a key step forward in Sanders' goal to develop a regional detention center. The County and Kansas City have agreed in principle l on a collaboration to house inmates.

Sanders has been in discussions with municipalities throughout Jackson County over the last several months about a regional collaboration. He sees this partnership with Kansas City as a crucial first step in the process toward a regional detention center. The County Executive has been a proponent of a regional detention center for several years. Before being elected County Executive in 2006 Sanders served as Jackson County Prosecutor and saw firsthand the need for a centralized regional facility.

Jolly, a former assistant Jackson County Prosecutor, has taken a lead role on behalf of Kansas City to move forward with plans for a centralized regional facility.
