County Executive Mike Sanders and Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross Blue Springs To Be Home Of New Innovation Park
DECEMBER 15, 2008 -- Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders congralutes Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross for securing an economic development project with global potential. Blue Springs is to be the home of the new Missouri Innovation Park, a 500-acre science and technology development. The University of Missouri is a long-term partner in this project, which will result in significant job opportunities throughout Blue Springs and the entire region. MU is going to be the anchor research tenant through the establishment of the "Mizzou Innovation Center."

Collections Department Extends Hours In Its Offices December 29-31
The Jackson County Collections Department will have extended hours Monday, December 29 through Wednesday, December 31 to accept tax payments. Those three days, the Collections offices in the Jackson County Courthouse (415 E. 12th Street in Kansas City on the first floor) and Courthouse Annex (308 W. Kansas Avenue in Independence on the first floor) will be open 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Taxpayers using the Courthouse in Kansas City 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. should enter the building through the ground floor West (Oak Street) entrance and 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. through the North (12th Street) entrance.

NOVEMBER 10, 2008 -- Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders will deliver his State of the County Address/2009 Budget Message on Thursday, November 13. The speech will begin at 2:00 p.m. and be given in the Legislative Chamber of the Courthouse at 415 E. 12th Street in Kansas City, Missouri.

County Executive Helps Break Ground For New JVS Dime Store
JUNE 6, 2008 -- Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders participated in the June 2 groundbreaking ceremony for The JVS Baltimore Ave. Dime Store. Jewish Vocational Services presented the concept for the store to the Jackson County Board of Services, and the Board was the first to offer its support for the project with a $50,000 grant.

'Clean Out Your Files Day' A 40-Ton Success
Clean Out Files Day MAY 7, 2008 -- The numbers are in, and Jackson County's 2008 "Clean Out Your Files Day" was a huge success. The County recycled 43,000 pounds of paper, but the 21.5 tons of paper tells only part of the story. Another 20 tons in the form of non-working electronics and computer equipment, including 497 monitors and 510 computers/servers, were also recycled .

County Executive Announces New Tax Payment Plan For Seniors
APRIL 4, 2008 -- Missouri State Senator Victor Callahan (D - District 11) joined Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders in announcing a new tax payment program for Jackson County's senior citizens. The new program will enable seniors, 62 or older, to pay their residential property tax in four installments.

Jackson County & Kansas City Officials Promoting Regional Jail
MARCH 27, 2008 -- For several years, Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders has supported developing a Regional Detention Center that would serve not only the County but also all municipalities within Jackson County.

Sanders joined County Prosecutor Jim Kanatzar at a press conference with Kansas City officials March 26 to discuss the regional jail concept.

Sheriff Phillips' 30 Years of Service Honored
FEBRUARY 11, 2008 -- Jackson County Sheriff Tom Phillips was presented his 30-year service pin by County Executive Mike Sanders during the County Legislature's February 11 meeting.

Phillips began his career with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office in 1978.

COMBAT Transition is Underway
FEBRUARY 5, 2008 -- The process has begun to transform how the Jackson County COMBAT (COMmunity Backed Anti-Drug Sales Tax) program is administered.

On February 4, the County Legislature approved the transition plan put forth by the COMBAT Review Committee. The Committee was appointed by County Executive Mike Sanders in March 2007 to review the COMBAT program.

Dennis R. Waits Named Legislative Chairman
JANAURY 7, 2008 -- Dennis R. Waits will chair the Jackson County Legislature in 2008.

The Legislature elected the 3rd District Legislator during its first meeting of the new year. Waits, a life-long resident of the district, was frist elected 3rd District Legislator in 1986.
