Heat Advisory in Effect for Jackson County on Tuesday
July 8, 2013 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Kansas City area, including all of Jackson County, for Tuesday, July 9, 2013. The advisory will be in effect from noon until 7:00 PM Tuesday evening.
Heat index values are expected to be between 100 to 105 degrees Tuesday afternoon.
To avoid heat related illness, citizens are encouraged to drink plenty of water and avoid drinks with high sugar, caffeine and alcohol. It is also important that citizens leave any strenuous outdoor activity for the early morning hours or later in the evening, when the temperature is lower.
“It is important that these warnings be taken seriously so that our citizens can protect themselves from the effects of extreme heat and humidity,” said Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders. “I urge everyone to take any precaution necessary to stay safe during these dangerous conditions and encourage our citizens to check on their friends and neighbors.”
Citizens who need to find a cooling center or other resources during this advisory are encouraged to call United Way 2-1-1 or visit the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website at: http://gis.dhss.mo.gov/Website/coolingCenter/coolingCenter.html
