Jackson County Executive to Participate in
Child Abuse Awareness Event with Operation Breakthrough

April 12, 2013 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders will join Sister Berta Sailer of Operation Breakthrough and other public officials on Monday, April 15, 2013 in honoring children who have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The event will take place at 1:00 P.M. near the north entrance of the downtown Jackson County Courthouse (415 East 12th Street, Kansas City, Missouri).

Tombstones bearing the names of children who have died as a result of abuse or neglect will be displayed.

“We must be a voice for these children,” said Sailer. “It is an outrage that children are dying because adults are reluctant to act. We need to increase awareness of the signs of child abuse, as well as that of the services available to families in distress.”

Note: In case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the 2nd floor lobby of the downtown county courthouse.
