Jackson County Passes 2013 Budget
December 3, 2012 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – During today’s last scheduled meeting of the year, the Jackson County Legislature officially adopted the county’s operating budget for 2013. The $300.2 million budget is $8.5 million less than 2012 and marks the sixth straight year that the county budget has been reduced.
The 2013 budget includes no increase to the county property tax levy. Other highlights include funding to complete renovations at the historic Truman Courthouse in Independence as well as plans to modernize and renovate the headquarters of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
“Despite less funding, the financial outlook for Jackson County Government remains strong,” said County Executive Mike Sanders. “This budget will allow us the opportunity to continue providing our citizens with high levels of service while also making the necessary investments for our county’s future.”
