Jackson County Executive to Participate in Child Abuse
Awareness Event with Operation Breakthrough

April 24, 2012 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders will join Sister Berta Sailer of Operation Breakthrough as well as Sheriff Mike Sharp and Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in honoring children who have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The event will take place at 11:30 A.M. near the north entrance of the downtown Jackson County Courthouse (415 East 12th Street, Kansas City, Missouri).

Tombstones bearing the names of children who have died as a result of abuse or neglect will be displayed. The program will also include live music presented by the Operation Breakthrough children's choir.

"It is important to remember that child abuse deaths occur right here in our own community,” said Sailer. “Our hope is that if we increase awareness, we can prevent children from suffering and dying unnecessarily.”
