2011 Property Tax Payments Due Saturday
County Courthouses to be closed December 31
December 29, 2011 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – Jackson County is reminding residents that the deadline for payment of 2011 county property tax bills is quickly approaching. The county began mailing property tax statements in early November. Payment for 2011 property taxes is due by December 31. Payment sent by U.S. mail will be late if postmarked after December 31.
Payment instructions and additional information were included with each statement. This information can also be found on the Jackson County Collection Department website (www.jacksongov.org/collections) or by calling 816-881-3232.
To save time and avoid last-minute crowds, taxpayers are encouraged to make their payments on-line at www.jacksongov.org. On-line payments can be made via e-check or credit card (MasterCard or Visa). There is a 40 cent charge for e-checks, which is the exact cost paid by Jackson County for the service. There is a 2.4% fee charged by a third-party bank for credit or debit card payments. The on-line payment website will close at 11:00 P.M. on December 31.
Those wishing to pay in person can do so by visiting the Collection Department offices in the downtown Jackson County Courthouse (415 East 12th Street, First Floor, Kansas City, Missouri) or the county courthouse annex in Independence (308 West Kansas Ave, First Floor, Independence, Missouri). The Collection Department is open from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday-Friday.
County offices will be closed on Saturday, December 31, 2011. However, on December 31, a drop box for property tax payments will be located at the west door of the downtown county courthouse in Kansas City as well as the front door of the county courthouse annex in Independence. Both drop boxes will be closed at midnight. Cash should not be placed in either of the drop boxes.
Jackson County collects taxes for several different taxing authorities including school districts, cities, library districts, and fire districts, among others. A levy chart can be found on the collection website.
