County Executive to Light
Independence Square for the Holidays

November 18, 2011 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders and Independence Mayor Don Reimal will flip the switch to light the Historic Truman Courthouse for the holiday season on Saturday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. 

The lighting ceremony caps several events scheduled to take place at the Independence Square. Activities begin at 4:00 p.m. and include a Kids Winter Wonderland with a dance performance from Studio 3V of Independence, strolling carolers and a visit from Santa Claus.  Sleigh rides will be offered beginning at noon.

Master of Ceremonies Dick Wilson of Oldies 95 radio will kick off the program at 5:00 p.m. The Bryant School 4th Grade Choir and Ancora Choral Ensemble will perform and a special “North Pole” mailbox will be available for children to mail their letters to Santa.  At approximately 5:40 p.m., Sanders will read Twas the Night before Christmas.
