Jackson County Executive Will Present
Checks To Domestic Violence Shelters

September 29, 2009 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders will present checks to three local domestic violence shelters during a special presentation at the County Courthouse at 415 East 12th Street in Kansas City at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009.

The Rose Brooks Center, Inc., Newhouse and Hope House, Inc. will each receive $3,723.36 from the fund that the Jackson County Board of Domestic Violence Shelters administers. The Jackson County Domestic Violence Fund is generated through a $5 fee on all marriage licenses issued in the County.

“The purpose of this fund is to help people escape the cycle of violence,” said Sanders. “We have an obligation to the victims of these crimes. Sadly, no community is free of domestic violence.  In Jackson County we work to assist these essential organizations in offering victims a safe haven and a new start.”
