COMBAT Public Forums to be Held May 16 & 30
May 15, 2009 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders and Jackson County Prosecutor Jim Kanatzar will be joined by law enforcement officials in conducting a series of public forums examining crime trends, gang activity and crime prevention. The forums will emphasize the role COMBAT plays in “combating” drug-related crime as well as the prevention and treatment programs funded through the Community Backed Anti-drug Sales Tax. The forums are scheduled for May 16 and May 30 (two forums on each day):
Saturday, May 16
10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Sunny Vale Middle School
3930 South R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs, Missouri 64015
1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Legacy Park Community Center
901 NE Bluestem Drive, Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64086
Saturday, May 30
10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center
3700 Blue Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri 64130
1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Fellowship of Christian Athletes World Headquarters 8701 Leeds Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64129
The officials will field questions from and listen to the opinions of the general public. Also participating in the forums will be new COMBAT Director Stacey Daniels-Young and representatives from various prevention/treatment agencies funded by COMBAT.
Sanders announced the hiring of Daniels-Young in February, along with Vincent Ortega as Assistant Director and David Fleming as Planning and Development Administrator. Bringing on board the new leadership staff marked the fulfillment of the final recommendations of the COMBAT Review Committee, which Sanders formed in March of 2007 to review COMBAT’s efficiency and effectiveness.
All the forums are open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
