Burnett Elected 2009 Chair of
Jackson County Legislature

January 7, 2009 (KANSAS CITY, MO) – Today at the first meeting of the 2009 Jackson County Legislature Scott Burnett was elected as Chairman of the nine-member body.

Burnett represents Jackson County’s 1st District. He was first elected to the County Legislature in 1998 and reelected in 2002 and 2006. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and has been active in politics and government much of his professional life. From 1977 through 1980, he worked as a Special Assistant in the Carter White House.

Burnett worked for PPM, Inc., an environmental clean-up company, from 1981 through 1993, serving first as Marketing Director, then as Vice President of Operations. He is currently a partner in SGB Communications, Inc., a firm that assists clients with communicating their views to government officials, other key leaders, the media and the general public.

Henry Rizzo, 2nd District At-Large Legislator, was elected the Vice Chairman for 2009 Jackson County Legislature. He was first elected to the County Legislature in 2006 and previously served as Vice Chairman in 2007.
